Pelvic stiffness as a cause of gynaecological diseases

The pelvis is the rigid structure of our body, but it has three movable joints. Posteriorly – two joints of the sacrum with the right and left pelvic bone. Anteriorly – joint between two pubic bones, which is called the “pubic symphysis”.

Mobility of bones in these joints can be checked yourself. Put your hands on your sacrum or the frontal junction and go: you will feel an active movement under your arms.

Injuries, severe bruises, sedentary lifestyle and mogitocia lead to impaired mobility of pelvic joints. They felt like rigid and inactive under the arms of an osteopath.

Let us explain why the mobility of pelvic joints is important for health and well-being.

Functioning of pelvic organs is regulated by nerve joints, which are formed at the level of sacrum and tailbone. Any displacement of the sacrum causes a violation of innervation from the sacral and coccygeal plexus to the pelvic organs and impair their blood supply, that is, the flow of arterial and outflow of venous blood.

Circulatory and innervation disorders lead to various pelvic dysfunctions.

Firstly, gynaecological problems arise in the female body, such as cycle disorders or frequent inflammatory diseases. Local immunity starts to function worse.

What is local immunity?
This is formation of immunity to infection of a single organ. Good local immunity is possible with sufficient blood flow in this organ. Thus, in response to ingestion of bacteria, immune cells are quickly delivered and in sufficient quantities to this bacterium, preventing the disease development.

Secondly, stiffness of pelvic joints causes a complex pregnancy, for example, the threat of abortion, persistent hypertonicity. As soon as the sacrum changes its position under the influence of osteopathic treatment and the mobility of the pelvic bones is restored, the compression (or, conversely, sprain of the ligaments and nerves) of the sacrum disappears as well as symptoms.

Thirdly, stiffness of pelvic joints becomes the cause of incorrect (or rather, non-physiological) position of the fetus during pregnancy. Due to pelvic dysfunctions, the child is simply uncomfortable to lie in a normal position. He/she is trying to turn his/her head down, and he/she is uncomfortable with this.

In this case, the osteopath corrects the structural disorders of the pelvic ring, and the child himself turns over to the cephalic presentation. This saves the woman from complicated delivery and cesarean section, minimizes the risk of birth injuries in the newborn.

Fourth, a stiff pelvis is fraught with private cystitis. Cystitis is more a female problem, as women have a short urethra and men have a long urethra, so it is easier to get into the bladder in the female body. If there are problems with local immunity, then the infection rises into the bladder, develops there, cystitis occurs. If the blood supply to the pelvic organs is normal, local immunity quickly copes with the bacteria entering the bladder, and does not reach cystitis.

In the male body, the logic is the same. The stiffness of the pelvic joints causes a violation of innervation and blood supply. This leads to stagnation, against which inflammatory processes is developed. For example, chronic prostatitis.

The essence of osteopathic treatment for structural disorders of the pelvis is to study the sacrum, restore normal blood supply and biomechanics of the pelvic organs. Using soft and painless techniques, the osteopath returns symmetry and mobility to the pelvis.

In this article, we have discussed only how pelvic dysfunctions affect the functioning of the pelvic organs. However, they can also be the cause of sciatica, pain in the lumbar, in the sacrum, in the legs. We will write about this in the next article.
